2/28 Update

It is 3pm on Sunday, and I have read 145 minutes so far!  This morning, I finished the book, "Sink or Swim". Colton, the boy in the story, has signed up for the Navy, and he chased U-boats in the war.  During his adventures, he got a shard of metal in his leg, but he survived. In the hospital, his mom found him, and he went home. It's an action story, and I liked it.

After I finished that story, I started the book, "Who is Bill Gates?"  This is part of a series that has biographies on famous people from different times and places.  The most interesting thing I read about Bill Gates, was that he donated $28 Billion Dollars to start the Bill & Melinda Gates foundation with the goal of supporting Polio Research. Another thing that sounded cool, was that Bill has sensors in all the rooms in his home. They play a person's favorite music when they walk into the room.

This afternoon, I plan to start a new book, called "I Survived: The Battle of Gettysburg, 1863".  I can't wait to tell you what I find!

2/26 Update

Today, I woke up early and read 55 minutes before school. I started with "What was the Constitution?"  We had a kick-off program at school, and our teachers gave us more time to read during class!  We could also read if we finished assignments early or during free-time.  I read Big Nate, which was about a 6th grade boy, and also started a new book, "Sink or Swim", which is about a boy during WWII.  During the school day, I read 212 minutes!  After school, I got home early, and had some additional time to read.  I kept reading "Sink or Swim", and finished another 48 minutes of reading!  My total for the day is 315 minutes. Thank you for your support! - Christopher

Hello!  I am joining in a Read-A-Thon reading race at my school, Ad Fontes! We are supporting the science program.  From February 26 - March 7th, I will race alongside my classmates to read the most minutes we possibly can. To help my school reach our goal of 125,000 reading minutes, my goal is to read 1,200 total minutes (2 hours a day!) during the race.

Would you consider sponsoring me in this race?  Based on my reading goal above, you may choose to match the minutes I read with a nickel, dime, or quarter, or you may choose to give a single amount.

Check back to see my progress throughout the 10-day race to see what I'm reading and how far I've come!  I'm choosing books now.  Thank you for supporting me!

Thank you,

Christopher

ABOUT 2021 Readathon

AFA's 2021 Read-a-thon

Instill a love for reading and science!

From February 26 to March 7, our K-6th graders will embark on a Read-a-thon race, where they will read as much as they can in an effort to earn prizes and beat the school-wide goal of 125,000 total minutes.

The Read-a-thon is a greatly anticipated annual event which helps cultivate a love for reading in young students and gives them a fun way to work alongside their peers to exceed goals and build confidence. With a little encouragement from teachers, classmates and supporters like you, it's incredible what children can accomplish!

In addition to forming lifelong readers, your donation will also help to inspire scientific curiosity and exploration! Funds raised toward our $20,000 goal will bolster our lower school science program with new curriculum, supplies and equipment. Any additional funds may be used to strengthen AFA’s growing music and arts program.

Please make sure you respond by the last day of the race (March 7).

Thank you!
